Privacy Policy

Effective and last updated:

This policy explains what ViralClips (“we”, “us”) collects when you use viralclips.pro and the ViralClips desktop app, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. The short version: your videos, projects and clips stay on your Mac. We collect what we need to run your account, sell and check your licence, and understand how the website is used. We do not sell personal data.

1. What stays on your Mac

The desktop app downloads, transcribes, reframes, captions and renders video on your computer. Source videos, transcripts, project files and exported clips are stored on your Mac and are not uploaded to us. API keys and YouTube sign-in tokens you add in the app are encrypted with macOS secure storage and stay on your device.

2. What we collect

  • Account details: your email address and, if you sign in with Google, your name and profile picture from Google. We use these to sign you in and attach your licence to you.
  • Purchases: what you bought, when, the amount, your email, billing country and payment status. Stripe handles payment; we never receive your full card number.
  • Licence checks: when you activate the app it receives a signed licence token tied to your account. The app sends that token to our server to check your licence is active (it works offline for up to 7 days between checks). We don’t collect your Mac’s serial number or hardware identifiers.
  • ViralClips AI requests: when the app picks clip moments or writes titles with ViralClips AI, it sends the episode title and description and the transcript text of the candidate clips (never the video or audio) to our server, which forwards it to an AI model and returns the answer. We don’t store the transcript or the answer. Error logs may keep the model’s error message for troubleshooting.
  • Website usage: pages visited, referrer, approximate location from your IP address, browser and device type, and errors, collected with Vercel Analytics and PostHog, which may set cookies or similar storage.
  • Referrals: if you arrive through an affiliate link, Tolt sets a cookie so the affiliate can be credited for a purchase.
  • Support: anything you send us by email, such as an earnings screenshot for the payout guarantee.

3. Data you send to other services from the app

Some app features talk directly to other services. That data goes from your Mac to them, not through us, and their privacy policies apply:

  • When you paste a video link, the app requests the video, its captions and its public “most replayed” data from the source site (for example YouTube).
  • If you add your own OpenAI or OpenRouter key, clip transcripts are sent to that provider under your account.
  • If you connect YouTube and choose to publish, the clip and the title, description and settings you choose are sent to Google/YouTube.

4. Why we use it

  • To provide what you asked for: your account, checkout, downloads, licence activation, ViralClips AI and support (performance of our contract with you).
  • To keep the service secure, prevent fraud and licence abuse, fix errors and understand which pages and features are used so we can improve them (our legitimate interests).
  • To keep purchase and tax records and meet other legal obligations.
  • To send emails about your purchase, licence or important changes. We only send marketing emails if you agree, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

5. Who processes it

We use these service providers to run ViralClips. They process data on our behalf or under their own terms:

  • Vercel: website hosting, server functions and analytics.
  • Supabase: accounts and sign-in, and Google if you sign in with Google.
  • Stripe: payments, receipts and refunds.
  • PostHog: product analytics and error reports.
  • Tolt: affiliate referral tracking.
  • OpenRouter and the AI model providers it routes to: ViralClips AI requests. ViralClips AI uses free models; some free-model providers may log prompts or use them to improve their models, so don’t put anything in a video you would not want processed that way.
  • Our email provider: sending account and purchase emails.
  • GitHub: hosting the app download files.

We may also disclose data if the law requires it, to protect our rights or users’ safety, or as part of a sale or reorganisation of the business, in which case this policy continues to apply.

6. International transfers

Our providers are mainly based in, or process data in, the United States. Where data protection law requires it, transfers rely on safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.

7. How long we keep it

We keep account details while your account is open. Purchase records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires (usually six years). Analytics data is kept according to each provider’s retention settings. Support emails are kept as long as needed to resolve your request and any follow-up. When data is no longer needed we delete or anonymise it.

8. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, or object to or restrict how we use it. Email us from the address on your account and we will respond within one month. Deleting your account ends your ability to activate the app or download releases, but we keep purchase records we are legally required to keep.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser and use tracker blockers; the website still works without analytics. In the app you can remove a saved API key or disconnect YouTube at any time, and deleting the app’s project folder removes your local projects.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please contact us first. You can also complain to your data protection authority, such as the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK.

9. Security

Data in transit to our website and server is encrypted with HTTPS, licence tokens are signed so they can’t be forged, and access to our provider accounts is restricted. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your personal data we will tell you and the relevant authority where the law requires.

10. Children

ViralClips is not for children under 13, or under the age of digital consent where you live, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when what we collect or how we use it changes, and revise the date above. For material changes we will notify account holders by email or on the website before they take effect.
